Use CSV files with the data migration service

To make sure source information is correctly mapped to your new Google Workspace account using the data migration service, use a comma-separated values (CSV) file. With a CSV file, you don't have to manually specify usernames and calendar resources every time you migrate data. It also allows you to upload and migrate multiple users and resources at the same time.

About the CSV files

There are 2 types of CSV files:

  • Identity mapping CSV file—Maps identities (for example, users and calendar resources) between accounts. You only need this file if you’re not migrating calendar events and you're only migrating users.
  • Migration CSV file—Specifies the users and calendar resources that you want to migrate.

If you're migrating calendar events for multiple users, you might need both CSV files. For example, if you have a large calendar migration and don't want to migrate all calendars at once, upload an identity mapping CSV file with all entities that have calendar events. Then, create a migration CSV file to migrate a subset of the entities.

Tip: If you want to migrate all calendars at once, the easiest way is to use an identity mapping file and upload it twice.

Format guidelines for files

  • Put each entry on a separate row.
  • Don't include header rows.
  • Use the full email address (including domain).

Tip: You can download a list of your users from your Google Admin console. For details, go to Download a list of users.

Set up an identity mapping CSV file

Map all users on your account in this file even if they aren’t currently being migrated (they could be participants in other users' meetings).

Use the following format:

Examples

In the following examples, example.com is the source account and solarmora.com is the new Google Workspace account.

Map users

dcruz@solarmora.com,dcruz@example.com

Map calendar resources

solarmora.com_37r2903631.resource.calendar.google.com,boardroom-1@example.com

Set up a migration CSV file

Use the following format:

  • For users: Google Workspace email address,Source email address,Password

Note: If you’re migrating from Microsoft Exchange or Exchange Online (Microsoft 365), you don’t need to include the password.

  • Don’t include the source email address if the address is the same as the Google Workspace email address. If the email address is the same and you're using a password, put 2 commas between the address and password.
  • For calendar resources: Google Workspace calendar resource,Source calendar resource
