1&1 IONOS: Verify your domain

Why verify?

A Beginner's Guide to Signing up for Google Workspace

We don't want someone else to use your domain to sign up for Google Workspace. You can help us keep your domain safe by showing us that you are the owner.

Step 1: Get your verification code from Google Workspace
  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. Click Continue to verify your domain with a TXT record.

  3. Look for your verification code in the setup tool and click Copy.

Shows the Copy button next to the Google Workspace verification code.

Step 2: Sign in to your domain host
  1. In the Admin Console, on the Verify your domain and set up email page, click the link to open your domain host sign-in page in a new tab.

Note: If the Admin Console doesn’t provide a link to your domain, open the 1&1 IONOS site in a new tab. Keep the Admin Console open in the first tab.

  2. Enter your Customer ID and Password that you created when you opened your 1&1 IONOS account.
  3. Click Login.

If you don’t know your account information, you can reset your password or contact 1&1 IONOS support.

Step 3: Add the verification record to your domain's DNS records
  1. In the Your domain pane, click Manage Domain.

  2. Open the DNS tab.

  3. Above the DNS records table, click Add record.
  4. Open the instructions for the type of verification record you want to add to your domain’s DNS records. Add a TXT verification record (most common)
    1. At the bottom of the DNS record type list, select TXT.

    2. In the Host Name field, enter @.
    3. In the Value field, paste the entire verification record that you copied in step 1.

    4. In the TTL field, leave the default value.
    5. Click Save.
    Add a CNAME verification record
    1. In the DNS record type list, select CNAME.

    2. In the Host Name field, enter the contents of the Setup Wizard’s Label / Host field from step 1.
    3. In the Points to field, enter the contents of the Setup Wizard’s Destination / Target field from step 1.

In the TTL field, leave the default value.
    4. Click Save.
Step 4: Tell Google Workspace to check your verification code
  1. Return to the browser tab where you have the Google Workspace setup tool open. (You can reopen the tool if you closed it.)

  2. On the page where you copied your verification code, scroll to the bottom and click Verify my domain.

Important! It might take additional time for your registrar to publish the verification code. If the Google Workspace setup tool gives you an error message, wait an hour before you try again.

In extreme cases, it can take up to 48 hours for your registrar to publish your verification code.
