Install and prepare GCDS

Find your mail server settings

Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS) is designed to run scheduled synchronizations without supervision, after all the synchronization rules are set up. To verify and troubleshoot synchronizations, your mail server needs to relay reports from GCDS.

Enter your mail server details on the Notifications page in Configuration Manager when you are setting up a sync.

Use your own mail server

Enter the following information:

  • SMTP Relay Host: The relay host IP address or domain name.
  • User Name: The username for connecting to the SMTP relay host (if needed).
  • Password: The password for connecting to the SMTP relay host (if needed).
  • From address: The address that the notifications are sent from.
  • To addresses: The email addresses of users who should receive GCDS reports.

Use your Google domain's mail server

Enter the following information:

  • SMTP Relay Host: smtp.gmail.com.
  • Check the Use SMTP with TLS box.
  • User Name: Your email address on your Google domain.
  • Password: Your password for your Google email address. (Note: If you use 2-Step Verification, you will need to create an Application Specific Password.)
