What is Configuration Manager?

Configuration Manager is a step-by-step user interface in Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS). You use Configuration Manager to create, test, and run a synchronization.

Use Configuration Manager to...

  • Set up and test a connection to your Google Account and LDAP server.
  • Configure which users, groups, and other data to synchronize.
  • Set up rules to omit data, such as users or groups, from a sync.
  • Set up notifications and logging.
  • Verify your settings by running a simulated synchronization.
  • Run a manual synchronization.

Review configuration tips

  • If you plan to install GCDS on a 64-bit compatible server, use the 64-bit version of GCDS. This version performs better than other versions when you need to synchronize large amounts of data.
  • Access your LDAP server with a user who has minimal permissions. You can configure GCDS with an LDAP user who only has read access to your LDAP directory. If your setup allows, you can also configure an LDAP user anonymously.
  • If you’re using GCDS with a Microsoft Active Directory server or OpenLDAP, make your configuration easier by using the default values in Configuration Manager.
  • Simulate a synchronization before you perform a real one. If you upgrade GCDS or change a configuration, simulate a sync again. If you don't, you might accidentally delete an account or restrict a user.
  • You must add at least one user rule before running a synchronization. Even if you use GCDS to only sync groups, add a user rule or the sync will fail.
