No longer available: Downgrade to G Suite legacy free edition

Beginning in November 2019, downgrading back to G Suite legacy free edition is no longer available.

For G Suite legacy free edition upgrades placed before November 2019

If you upgraded from the legacy free edition of G Suite to another G Suite edition before November 2019, you might have received a free trial period.  After the trial ends, your paid subscription will begin. As a result, you won't be able to downgrade and will no longer be able to use the legacy free edition of G Suite.

If you don't have the downgrade option in your Admin console, this could be because:

  • You added an additional domain to your account during your G Suite trial. Remove the domain and try downgrading again.
  • You’re not in the free G Suite trial period.
  • You added more than 10 users during your trial.
  • You never upgraded from the legacy free edition.

Downgrade from G Suite Basic trial

If you upgraded from the legacy free edition and are still in your G Suite Basic free trial:

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Billing.
  3. Next to your G Suite Basic subscription, click Actions and then Cancel subscription.

This doesn't cancel your subscription, yet. If you're still in your free trial, you'll see an option to downgrade.

  4. Select Downgrade to Google Apps and click Continue.
  5. Accept the free edition terms of service.

You should now see the legacy free edition of G Suite on your Billing page.

  8. Accept the free edition terms of service.

You should now see the legacy free edition of G Suite on your Billing page.
