Admin console reports and logs

In 2014, we redesigned the Admin console reports and logs feature. The new version has:

  • More data—Run reports on new types of data, including video hangout participations and user-level details.
  • Improved navigation—Quickly switch between collections of high- and low-level reports and other data sets.
  • Interactivity—Click on high-level data points to drill down to details.
  • Customization—Configure graphs and tables to show the information that's important to you.

This table compares the locations of features in the old and new Reports section.

Old location New location
Additional Reports > Accounts Report The Account Activity page, which includes customizable columns, trend data, and a CSV download or export directly to a Google Sheets file within Drive.
Additional Reports > Activity Report The Highlights page, which has domain-level data for weekly active users, as well as trends and aggregations of emails exchanged, docs created, and hangout participations. You can modify the timeline to view activity for 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months.
Additional Reports > Disk Space Report The Highlights and Account Activity pages show detailed storage consumption data in the storage widget on the right.
Additional Reports > Email Clients Report The Apps Usage page now provides more details on email usage. View data on Gmail usage protocols like POP, IMAP, or Webmail, and other Gmail related data columns—like email count, storage, and so on—including domain level trending for each column. You can also export the data to CSV files or export directly to a Google Sheets file within Drive.
Additional Reports > Summary Report The Highlights, Aggregate reports, and Account Activity pages.
Additional Reports > 2-step Verification Report The Security page has a 2-step verification column that shows user-level enrollment data with domain-level trend data on the top. Optionally, you can export the data to CSV files or export directly to a Google Sheets file within Drive.
Mobile Reports Mobile reports are available under Aggregate reports > Mobile.
ChromeOS Reports ChromeOS reports are available under Aggregate reports > ChromeOS.
Usage > Gmail (Three reports providing activity and storage quota information) The Apps Usage page now provides more detailed user-level Gmail data and domain level trending for each data column. You can also export the data to CSV file or export directly to a Google Sheets file within Drive. The new Gmail storage quota report now includes the suspended users storage quota. The old Gmail storage quota report did not include Gmail storage quota information for suspended users.
Usage > Drive (Seven reports providing activity and storage quota information) The Apps Usage page now provides more detailed user-level Drive data and domain level trending for each data column. You can also export the data to CSV file or export directly to a Google Sheets file within Drive. See the number of documents created, amount of storage consumed, and more.

Note: We redesigned the Document Visibility report on the old Reports page, renamed it Document Link Shared Status, and moved it to the Highlights page. The collaboration report is now an extension of the Apps Usage page where admins can add document activity columns like documents shared, edited, viewed and owned. The Creators report can be easily created from the Apps Usage page and is now more granular since the data is available at the user level with details on file formats.

Calendar The Highlights page shows Calendar activity in customizable timeframes.
Admin Audit The wording, event names, and filters are simpler, and you can customize the report by adding or removing columns.
Legacy Docs Audit Log (an opt in feature that provided limited auditing of view & edit events [only Docs file formats]) The Legacy Docs Audit Log is deprecated. A new Drive audit feature which covers all file formats (including Docs) and all events is now available with G Suite Business.
Calendar Audit Log See the actions your domain's users perform in their calendars, including every time a user creates, updates, deletes, or shares an event. The log also includes changes to calendars' details and to subscriptions.
Aggregate Reports Aggregate reports allow you to review an overview of administration information for various settings and statuses, including: verification status, account status, administration status, storage quotas, document visibility, email flow, and Drive file counts.
