Manage domain registration renewals

If you purchase a domain through Google while signing up for Google services, your domain ownership is valid for one year. After that, you must renew your domain registration to keep owning the domain.

Avoid suspension. Set your domain purchased through Google to automatically renew and make sure your payment method is valid and up to date. Otherwise, your Google services might be suspended and you might lose domain ownership.

Step 1: Find your domain registrar

How you manage your domain registration renewal depends on who your domain registrar is. If you purchased your domain from a partner registrar during Google Workspace or Cloud Identity setup, you can find your domain registrar (host) in the Google Admin console.

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Accountand thenDomainsand thenManage domains.
  3. You can find your domain registrar by doing one of the following:

    • Checking domain’s Status column. For example, your domain status might say, “Registered since {date} with {domain registrar}. Google’s domain registrar partners are GoDaddy, Enom, DomainDiscount24.com, and Google Domains.
    • Clicking View Details in the Status column
  4. If your registrar is GoDaddy, Enom, or DomainDiscount24.com, go to Manage registration and renewal in the Admin console. Or if your registrar is Google Domains, go to Manage renewal through Google Domains.

If you don’t have domain registrar information in your domain’s Status column, you purchased your domain separately from your Google service. To manage your domain renewal, you need to go to your domain registrar’s website. If you need help finding your domain registration host, see Identify your domain host.

Step 2: Manage domain registration and autorenewal

Option 1: Manage registration and renewal in the Admin console
If your domain registrar is Google Domains, go to Manage renewal through Google Domains instead.
  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using an account with super administrator privileges (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Billingand thenSubscriptions.
  3. Click your Domain Registration subscription.

You’ll see the domain registration renewal cost and expiration/renewal date.

  4. Next to Renewal options, click Change renewal settings.
  5. Choose an option:
    • To automatically renew your domain 7 days before its actual renewal date, select Auto-Renew my contract. Your primary payment method is charged for the renewal at the beginning of the following month. Your Google services continue uninterrupted.
    • To let the domain registration expire at its renewal date and suspend your Google services, select Cancel my subscription.

Important: If you want to keep your domain, 7 days before your suspension date, you need to select Auto-renew my contract instead.

  6. If you need to change your renewal payment details, go to Update credit card details and complete the steps.
Option 2: Manage renewal through Google Domains

If you purchased your domain when you signed up for a Google service and your registrar is Google Domains, you manage your registration through your Google Workspace or Cloud Identity Premium account. In this case, your domain is set to renew automatically and you can't change this option in the Admin console.

If you don't want your domain registration to renew automatically, you need to cancel your domain billing subscription with Google Workspace or Cloud Identity Premium and set it up directly with Google Domains. During setup you can turn off automatic renewal. For the steps, go to Move your domain billing subscription to Google Domains.

To see your domain registration renewal date and cost:

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using an account with super administrator privileges (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Billingand thenSubscriptions.
  3. Click your Domain Registration subscription.

You’ll see the renewal cost and expiration and renewal date.
