Migrate data from Exchange

Google Workspace Migration for Microsoft Exchange

As an administrator for your organization, you can migrate users' email, calendar, and contact data from your Microsoft Exchange environment to Google Workspace using Google Workspace Migration for Microsoft Exchange (GWMME).

Step 1: Before you begin

  1. Meet the system requirements—For details, go to GWMME system requirements.
  2. Set up an Outlook profile to use in Step 4 (below)–You can use a Microsoft Outlook profile with any Exchange setup. However, you must use an Outlook profile if you:
    • Are migrating from Exchange 2016 or later
    • Are migrating from Exchange Online (Microsoft 365). If so, you must be using Outlook 2016 or later or Outlook from Microsoft 365 (desktop version).
    • Have Outlook 2016 or later installed on your GWMME computer (even if you're migrating from Exchange 2013 or earlier)
  3. Create CSV files—Depending on what you plan to migrate, you might need 2 CSV files:
    • Control file–Determines the source users that get migrated and the Google Workspace accounts their data is migrated to.
    • Mapping file–Required if you're migrating calendar data.

For details, go to Create CSV files for your migration.

Step 2: Authorize GWMME

Before you can install GWMME, you must Authorize GWMME for your account.

Step 3: Download & install GWMME

  1. Go to the GWMME download page.
  2. Click Download GWMME.
  3. Open the installer and follow the instructions to install GWMME.

Step 4: Migrate data

You can migrate data by running GWMME:

  • On a Microsoft Windows computer, using the GWMME interface—Follow the instructions below, in this section.
  • From the command line (better suited to experienced administrators)—Go to Migrate data using the command line.
