FAQs
Can I run GWMME on the Exchange server? No. It's strongly recommended that you run GWMME on a separate client machine.
Yes. GWMME does work in a hosted Exchange environment but you need to be aware the profile is created differently.
GWMME accesses Exchange mailboxes using an administrator profile. If you configure GWMME with the server hostname/user option, GWMME creates a profile using these settings and uses the profile to access the mailboxes.
With hosted Exchange environments, and other complex network setups, direct MAPI access from Outlook to Exchange isn't possible. In this case, when you create a profile from Outlook using the Outlook wizard, GWMME uses Outlook Anywhere (also called MAPI/RPC over HTTP) to make sure Exchange is accessible from the profile. Using Outlook Anywhere is the best way to connect to hosted Exchange services.
No. Administrator access is required.
If you aren't an administrator but want to migrate from Exchange or Outlook, you can use Google Workspace Migration for Microsoft Outlook (GWMMO).
