You can use the preview setting to test new features on Google Meet hardware devices. You can allow users to preview features to get feedback, identify potential issues, and prepare for a smooth deployment.
Before you begin
- We recommend that you set up early preview on 10% or less of your devices. Users can try new features before they’re generally available.
- You can keep your current release channel. If you want to test an upcoming build of ChromeOS, select Beta.
- We also recommend configuring the release channel for your devices to identify problems in ChromeOS updates early. To change the OS release channel of your devices, see Change the automatic updates for your devices.
Change the feature preview setting
Before you begin: If you need to set up a department or team for this setting, go to Add an organizational unit.

Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.
If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

Go to Menu
Devices > Google Meet hardware > Settings.
Some features may require having the Manage Google Meet hardware privilege.
- Click Device settings.
- (Optional) To apply the setting to a department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit. Show me how.
- Scroll to and click Feature preview.
- Select Early preview or General availability. If you select Early preview, devices will have certain features available to them before the full rollout.

Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.
To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit.
- Confirm devices are updated with the new setting. If you set devices to preview settings, you’ll see Preview at the bottom of the display screen.
If you don’t see the correct setting, restart the device.
