What is G Suite for Education?

Google offers schools a hosted solution for email, calendar, and chat through G Suite for Education, our integrated communication and collaboration solution. You can complement the core suite with more Google services.

How much is G Suite for Education?

G Suite for Education is free. We plan to keep the core offering of G Suite for Education free. This offering includes user accounts for future incoming students.

Can homeschools use G Suite for Education?

Yes. Beginning in June 2018, G Suite for Education will be available for homeschools.

If you run a homeschool co-op and are interested in G Suite for Education, fill out the Homeschool Co-Op Interest form to express your interest and to receive more information.

If you’re a state homeschool organization, fill out the Homeschool State Organization Interest form to express your interest.

We’ll then provide information on how to verify your local homeschool co-ops for G Suite for Education access.
 

How do I sign up?

To sign up for G Suite for Education, visit the sign-up page. You can sign up yourself or contact the Sales team for more information.

After you've signed up for G Suite for Education, you activate your services by verifying domain ownership. 

If you need help setting up your account or more information:

Important: Sign up for G Suite for Education with an existing domain that you own. Domains can’t be purchased through the sign-up process. After you sign up, you have access to a free trial of G Suite Basic while your organization qualifications are reviewed. If your account isn’t approved for G Suite for Education, it will be suspended after a 30-day period. If you created email or data during this period, you'll need to move it to a Google consumer service (such as Gmail) or another service.

Why G Suite for Education? How much storage do users get with G Suite for Education?

Each user has unlimited storage for Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. (If you’ve 4 or fewer users in your organization, each user gets 1 TB of storage.)

Who qualifies for G Suite for Education?

Inside the U.S.

  • A nonprofit K–12 or higher educational institution verified by an accepted accreditation body
  • A homeschool co-op verified by an eligible homeschool association


Outside the U.S.

Who else can sign up for G Suite for Education?

If you’re a church school or a research lab associated with an accredited school, you qualify for G Suite for Education. Sign up under the school's domain.

What's the difference between G Suite for Education and G Suite Basic?

How many accounts can I get with G Suite? Do I need to remove inactive users?

The number of users you can have on G Suite for Education is limitless (as long as you aren't generating spam). You can request more Education accounts via the Admin console interface. Also, we don't require you to remove inactive users.

What's the difference between G Suite for Education and G Suite for Nonprofits?

Will there be advertisements with G Suite for Education?

In all educational domains, ads are turned off for G Suite for Education services. K–12 G Suite for Education users don't see ads in Google Search when signed in with their G Suite for Education accounts.

What is the uptime for G Suite services?

Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Hangouts, Google Drive, and Google Sites are guaranteed to be available at least 99.9% of the time. The G Suite team is committed to providing your school with the best level of service. For more information, see the G Suite Service Level Agreement.

Are nonprofit organizations eligible for G Suite for Education?

Nonprofit organizations can only apply for G Suite for Nonprofits. For more information, visit the Google for Nonprofits website.

Deployment

How do I train faculty and students how to use G Suite for Education?

We offer many resources, such as Help Centers and online presentations in our G Suite Learning Center, to help you train your users.  

How long does it take to deploy G Suite?

On average, it takes 6 weeks to deploy G Suite. 

Can existing email data be migrated to G Suite?

Yes, we provide a range of email migration options for you to migrate your old email to G Suite.

What kind of scanning or indexing of user data is done on G Suite for Education accounts?

G Suite for Education services don't collect or use student data for advertising purposes or to create ad profiles.

Gmail for consumers and G Suite for Education users runs on the same infrastructure, which helps us deliver high performance, reliability, and security to all of our users. However, G Suite is a separate offering that provides more security, administrative and archiving controls for education, work, and government customers.

Like many email providers, we scan Gmail to keep our users secure and to improve their product experience. Scanning includes virus and spam protection, spell check, relevant search results, and features like Priority Inbox and autodetection of calendar events. Scanning is done on all incoming emails and is 100% automated. We don't scan G Suite for Education emails for advertising purposes.

Can my school's existing authentication system integrate with G Suite?

Yes, G Suite offers the SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) Service for G Suite to integrate with your authentication system. G Suite also offers an extensive code library for your reference while setting this up. 

What happens if I have a problem?

The G Suite Help Center is a great resource to troubleshoot any problems. If you can’t find the answer online, 24/7 phone, email, and chat support is available with your G Suite for Education account.

How secure is G Suite?

Two of the most common questions regarding Google, in general, and G Suite specifically, are security and privacy. We take both topics seriously and believe that our offerings are a great option for customers.

Our business is built on our users' trust: trust in our ability to properly secure their data and our commitment to respect the privacy of the information they place in our systems by not giving that information to others or using it inappropriately.

How do I monitor, filter, or archive mail with G Suite for Education?

G Suite for Education gives schools the ability to filter, monitor, or archive mail using the advanced settings for Gmail.

Alternatively, you can implement your own monitoring, filtering, or archiving solution using an email gateway. This gateway allows your school to route all mail into and out of our system through your network and affords you the ability to monitor, filter, and archive in any way you see fit. Can G Suite for Education be used in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998?

Yes. We contractually require that schools using G Suite for Education get the parental consent required by COPPA. Our services can be used in compliance with COPPA as long as a school has parental consent. 

Can G Suite for Education be used in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)?

Yes. G Suite for Education core services comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Is G Suite for Education available in Myanmar [Burma]?
