Gmail themes

Themes allow your users to customize the look and feel of their Gmail accounts by choosing their own colors and background schemes. To select a theme, all users can sign in to their Gmail accounts, go to Settings > Themes and choose from the selection of Gmail themes or create their own. Changing themes does not affect the content or functionality of Gmail, nor does it alter any settings applied by the administrator, such as a customized logo.

Enabling or disabling Gmail themes affects all users.

Gmail themes are enabled when you sign up for a Google Apps account. To disable themes:

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console

  2. From the dashboard, click Apps, then click Google Apps > Gmail > User settings

  3. Scroll to the Themes section and uncheck the box labeled Let users choose their own themes if it's checked.

  4. Click Save changes.

There may be a delay before changes take effect.

To re-enable Gmail themes, return to the Themes section, check Let users to choose their own themes, and click Save changes.
