January 25, 2022: Program updates
  • Source environments no longer require a minimum of 500 users on a supported Google Workspace primary license to qualify for a domain transfer.
  • Destination environments no longer require a minimum of 5,000 users on a supported Google Workspace primary license to qualify for a domain transfer.
  • Business Plus and Business Standard editions are now supported.
December 16, 2021: Multiple updates
  • Chrome profiles remain associated with the source environment post-transfer. Customers need to manually re-enroll profiles on any managed device.
  • Shared drives in the source environment are moved to the transfer root organizational unit of the destination. However, no policies or settings from the source environment are included in the transfer.
  • The source environment cannot have client-side encryption (CSE) turned on. The presence of CSE is a blocker for Domain Transfer.
  • During the Domain Transfer process, Google Chat apps might stop responding, disappear from direct messages and Spaces, or otherwise stop working as expected.
November 9, 2021: Total users in destination environment increased
The destination environment can now support up to 350,000 users after the domain transfer process completes.
June 8, 2021: Archived User licenses are supported
Support for Archived User licenses is now available. This license type no longer requires conversion to a supported license before starting the transfer process.
March 18, 2021: Support for App Maker is deprecated
The App Maker product was deprecated in January 2021 and existing App Maker files will not transfer. Learn more
March 16, 2021: Updates to Google Vault retention rules in the source
Google Meet and Google Chat have additional requirements for indefinite custom retention rules. Learn more
March 12, 2021: Target audiences will not transfer but are available in the source

Target audiences will not transfer from the source environment to the destination environment. Target audiences applied to the documents of transferred users remain available, though the target audiences are not visible or modifiable from the destination environment's Google Admin Console. Learn more

Note: While target audiences continue to be visible and manageable within the source environment, we recommend replacing them with target audiences in the destination environment.
