The first thing I did was go through the troubleshooting of course. It still doesn't work.

Hi again
Thanks for the update. Sorry that those general troubleshooting tips didn't seem to work. When you are attempting to search with Google Assistant, do neither of the methods mentioned in this article work? Have you attempted to turn Screen Context off and then on again?
  1. On your device, press the  key, say "Ok Google," or touch and hold the Launcher  in the lower left corner of your screen.
  2. Select Settings
  3. Next to "Let Assistant use what's on your screen," select the toggle to turn on and off.
Just trying to go through all of the possibilities here to see what might work.

Thank you,
James

There is no Settings cog in the screen that comes up when the Assistant is invoked. I just get a big Assistant Window with Type a message at the top, Hi, how can I help? in the middle, then three pill-shaped buttons at the bottom - 'What can you do?', 'I'm bored' and 'Set a reminder'. No Settings. Or do you mean the Settings of the PixelBook? If I go there, I lose the Assistant Window. If I go ahead anyway and go to my PixelBook's Settings (and lose the Assistant Window) under Search and Assistant I have two options. Search and Google Assistant (Enabled). Inside Search there is Preferred search engine (Google) and Quick Answers. Inside Google Assistant (Enabled) there is Screen context, Hey Google, Voice match, Notifications, Preferred input and Google Assistant settings. All of these are toggled on except Preferred input. Google Assistant settings takes me to the settings in my own Google account, so away from the PixelBook. In there, there are 3 tabs, You, Assistant and Services. Under the Assistant Tab there's Languages and Assistant Devices (Chromebook, ChromeOS). Under Services there a bunch of stuff about my Notes, Music, Calendar etc. Nowhere in all of that do I see "Let Assistant use what's on your screen" and whenever I try to outline something on the screen I continue to get "Mmmm. Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds". I have read the article you link to, as well, with nothing I haven't tried yet.
