Optimize the performance of video conferencing on Pixelbook

Maximize the window you use for the video conference to make it easier to know who you're talking to and what's being shared.

• Tablet mode: In tablet mode, the window you use is always maximized.
• Laptop mode: To maximize the window when in laptop mode, press the Alt and + keys. You can also go to the top right of the window and click Maximize .

If you experience performance issues while in the video conference, it may help to close other applications that are running in the background.

To view all currently open windows:

• Tablet mode: From the top of the screen, drag your finger down to show other available windows in overview. Then tap the window you want. You can also tap Overview at the bottom corner of your screen to show all open windows.
• Laptop mode: Press and hold Alt, then tap Tab until you get to the window you want to open. You can also press the Overview key  on your keyboard to show all open windows.

To close a window while in Overview mode, select Close in the upper right corner of the window.

To make your video quality clear for others in the video conference, make sure to be in a well-lit area. Avoid backlighting or other background elements that can distract others, and make sure that the camera's lens is clean.

Many video conferencing apps, including Meet, allow you to preview your video feed before you join a meeting. Use the preview to ensure the lighting and other conditions make you visibly clear.

Background noise while in a video conference can distract others, or even make it impossible to clearly hear you. Make sure that you're in a quiet location while in the video conference. If possible, adjust your microphone settings before you start the call.

If you can't fully eliminate background noise, you may want to mute your microphone when you aren't speaking.

Make sure that you have a strong Wi-Fi signal before you join a video conference. Move close to your router or other Wi-Fi source to get a better connection.

You should also try to use a fast internet connection. Bandwidth requirements vary from app to app, but here's how you can prepare your network for video calls.

If you or the people you are in a video conference struggle with slow connection, and if you don't need to be onscreen or present to the meeting, you can turn off your camera in the conferencing app to reduce the required bandwidth for each participant.

Based on the app you use, you may be able to change the resolution of the video stream. If you struggle with slow connection, a lower resolution may improve your overall experience.

If you experience performance issues or struggle with a slow connection, it may help to reduce the number of video streams on the screen.

Based on the app, you may be able to change the layout to display only one or a small number of video streams. If only one person is presenting, make their video the only one that is displayed, or have other participants turn off their cameras if they don't need to be onscreen.
