How to remove the background picture overlay? I have a solution.

The image is not visible due to forum settings.

First of all, when people say this is a bug and they're working on it, that's BS. It's one line of CSS that any moron could remove. I have no idea why Google won't do it. My only theory is that no one at Google has less than 50 emails in their inbox, so they just can't relate.

Anyway, here's the fix:

Install this chrome extension, or a similar one:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/custom-css-by-denis/cemphncflepgmgfhcdegkbkekifodacd/related

**NOTE: this is not my extension so I cannot and do not make any warrantees about it's security, but it seems simple and legit.**

Navigate to your inbox, open the extension, and paste in this CSS rule:

.bkK>.nH {
    background: none !important;
}

The image is not visible due to forum settings.

Voila! Overlay removed.

If you would like to have some background for your email list, then use these two rules:

.bkK>.nH {
    background: none !important;
}

.ae4.nH.oy8Mbf {
    background: rgba(0,0,0,0.4);
}

And... for some reason, the code above is no longer working. What gives? Why does Google hate everyone?! I guess we should be thankful for the time we had with our inboxes looking good again. Sigh....

I am trying to make this fix work, but I don't really know what I am doing. How do I bring up the styles window to enter the fix text?
Thanks

I have the CSS rule pasted into the styles for mail.google.com box of the open extension, but nothing happens after that. I have tried hitting the enter button with no results. The overlay is still there. What am I missing?

Hello everyone!

To adjust the theme, follow the steps below:

Install the StyleBot extension:

Log in to the version with the normal Gmail layout instead of the HTML layout:

Press F5 to reload the page after installing the StyleBot extension.

Click on the StyleBot extension when accessing Gmail and select the "Code Mode" option and paste the following code:

.bkK>.nH {
    background: none !important;
}

The result will be the removal of the gray overlay from Gmail. :-)

Greetings!

Since you obviously know what you are doing User 4010540291948225336, is there a way to make the headings over the mailbox (Back, Archive, Spam, etc.) stand out more - be in bold or black? With your brilliant advice, I can now see the background and the new emails - faint, but readable. What I cannot see are those labels, unless I hover over them.
