A New Look For Google News

Announcement
Hi everyone, Aishwarya here - News Help Community Manager.

I'm thrilled to announce that starting today, you can opt in to the new Google News experience on desktop web (news.google.com). This experience includes:
  • A brand-new briefing with top stories, local news, and picks for you
  • A new, customizable topics section—just click on Customize to add, remove, and re-order your topics
  • A fresh, modern look with more organization

To opt in to this experience now, go to news.google.com and, if you’re signed in, click on the special banner at the top of the page. If you’re not signed in, you can Sign in & Switch to change to the new experience or Take a peek to see the new version just once.

To opt out, follow the instructions below:
  • Click on the gear icon in the top-right toolbar
  • Go to Settings
  • Uncheck the checkbox next to Start using the new Google News

Note: During the transition, some of you will automatically see the new look, but you won't be able to change back to the original version.

We’d love to hear your feedback on the new experience. Please let us know what you think on this thread, or submit feedback by selecting the question mark icon next to the search box and choose the Send feedback option.

Thanks!
Aishwarya on behalf of the Google News team

Just tried the new looks Google News, I cannot see any way to save a search as was possible on the previous version.

Some of the functions have been lost you were still able to use previously saved searches. I have several which I frequently used.

Rather than removing it, perhaps you could search patterns to be saved again?

Thanks to the team for bringing out the new look for google news.

G News - On the way to change.. I believe, there is lot more that can be enhanced.

But, thumps up for the initial steps to change. UI can be further polished.  Will share my experience in the days to come.

Best,

True, as at the moment you can get previously saved searches (had not noticed that) but you still do not seem to be able to create a search or edit one.

Hi, I somehow didn't like the new interface on desktop.

Didn't like the new look :( Old look is better than the new ones.

The new look works OK on the desktop in landscape mode but the right side of the articles are forced off the screen in portrait when viewed on a tablet. I won't want to adopt it entirely until that's fixed. Thanks

HORRIBLE- to much text, images too small, confusing layout

First of all, the new Google News is not responsive (on desktop), unlike the old version. It's 2022 and RWD is a must. Please fix it.

The old version showed 4 headlines per each section (U.S., World, Local, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports), whereas the new version shows only 3. Please increase it to at least 4 or better make this number adjustable by user. Thanks.

As a workaround, there is a user style which adds responsiveness to the new Google News. You can use it with Stylish extension.

I don't like it at all (desktop).  Putting all the articles in little boxes I just find visually cluttered and confusing.  If you go with this, please allow the old look to be selected in perpetuity.
