How do I enable Google Phone's visual voicemail on Galaxy S23 Ultra?

Is this still and issue that Google Fi fails to support?  I just upgraded from an Pixel 3 to a Samsung s23 Ultra and then tried to get visual voice mail to work.  Still stuck.....  Downloaded Google Phone App.  Was told by support that they would turn in on in 24 hours.  24 hours later, nothing.  I was told that I had to "call" voice mail.  I have 965 new voice messages because I have not "called" into voice mail in 8 years.

Customer service told me my only option was to switch carriers if I wanted this feature on a Samsung phone and that I was not in a contract, and then hung up on me.  Is there anyone in the community that can help me?  Is there any option that does not require calling a phone number to get voice mails?  The "SMS text" option just says "No Transcript Available" for every call.  And this is on voices mails that the speech is very clear.

I did find that I could use "takeout" to backup my voice messages and listen to them via computer.  Is there any other option to listen to voice messages via computer, email, or any other way???

Hey I'm not sure if you found an answer to this or not but you can download Google voice and get your Google voice number. Then in Samsung phone application Go into the settings by hitting the three dot menu icon in the upper right hand corner. Then inside of those settings scroll down until you see supplementary services. Select that, and you will see an options caller ID, call waiting and call forwarding. Select call forwarding and enter your Google voice number in the options for forward when busy and forward when unreachable. Then go back into Google voice and select the three line hamburger icon in the upper left. Make sure you  have enabled do not disturb. This will immediately forward all calls transferred to Google voice to your Voicemail. From the same hamburger icon menu select settings. In the settings menu scroll down until you see voicemail. Under voicemail you will see voicemail greeting, get voicemail via email, and voicemail transcripts. Turn on get voicemail via email and voicemail transcripts. Then select voicemail greeting and set up your voicemail greeting.
Now any phone call that you do not answer on your Samsung will get transferred to Google voice, immediately hear the voicemail greeting you just recorded and then any message that they leave will be transcribed and the transcription will be sent to you via email. You can also view it in Google voice under the voicemail tab. Basically we are just using Google voice as our default voicemail provider.

Oh yeah and I thought I should add It doesn't cost anything. You don't have to have any money in Google voice for this to work. In fact I have been using this method for years and have never had any credit in Google voice. I hope this helps you buddy. Good luck.

Hello Aaron E 2681,

This is a long-time unresolved issue.  Essentially, Google has its apps and Samsung has their own.  They don't play well together.

Aaron E 2681,

You should have a Case ID from your interaction with Google Fi Support.  It would be helpful if you could post it.

Best,

That last post was really useful. Thanks! I have an unlocked Note9 so couldn't get visual voicemail through Verizon. So I did what you (user...0568) suggested, and it worked like a charm. The Google Visual Voicemail is just as good, if not better, than Verizon's. I will be installing it on my S23 Ultra when it arrives. Thanks again!

I found out that the  Visual Voicemail feature  does not work  if you have and/or purchased what is called a "Universal Phone"! That is a generic phone from the manufacturer that does not have all the pre-installed Verizon features on it. You must have a phone with pre-installed Verizon features in order for the Visual Voicemail and/or other Verizon Apps. It took me three days and 20hrs and a bundle of persistence with the help of the Verizon Executive Relations team to figure it out. I hope that helps!

My answer was specific for Verizon service provider devices. It would hold true for every sinngle carrier specific (Google Fiber,T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T)  devices too. There seems to be interference with carrier specific feature applications when it comes to "Universal Phones" with generic/ non-specific carrier features.

Google Fi's visual voicemail works on Android phones that do not have proprietary apps that interfere with its working.  Google Fi does not limit visual voicemail to Google Pixel phones.
