Verify your business with a video recording

You can verify your business with a video upload that captures key details. The video helps us confirm that you represent the business. Video verification is for businesses with a physical storefront, service providers without a physical location, or hybrid businesses. Knowing your business type helps you understand what details to capture in your verification video. Learn more about service-area and hybrid businesses.

Before you start

Important: Your video recording should not include:

  • Any sensitive information like bank account, tax, or identification numbers.
  • Any other private information about yourself or others.
  • Other people’s faces.

Take the time to plan your video. You can’t record a video offline and then upload the file for verification later. Recording for verification videos can only be completed through your Business Profile. The video you submit for verification should be:

  • Unedited, unique, and one continuous recording without breaks.
  • At least 30 seconds long.
  • Recorded and uploaded from a mobile device through your Business Profile. Learn how to submit your video.

Video requirements for storefront or hybrid businesses

Important: A hybrid business is a business that serves customers at their business address but also directly visits or delivers to customers. For example, a dine-in restaurant that also delivers food. If your business doesn’t have permanent on-site signage, it's not eligible as a storefront and should be listed as a service-area business. Learn more about service-area and hybrid businesses.

For storefront or hybrid businesses, your video should meet these requirements:

  • Show the location of your business: Capture the official street and number signs, nearby businesses, recognizable landmarks, or the area around your business that shows your business is at the correct Google Maps location listed in your Business Profile.
  • Show evidence that your business exists: Capture the storefront, showroom, or business signage. Show your business name printed on permanent fixtures, such as a signboard, wall, or window. The business name shown in the video must match the name of your Business Profile.
  • Demonstrate proof of management: You can show that you’re authorized to represent your business by recording employee-only items or areas. Record yourself opening a cash register, accessing a point-of-sale system, unlocking the store, staff room, kitchen, or storage room.

Video requirements for service-area businesses

Important: A service-area business is defined as a business that visits or delivers to customers directly but doesn’t serve customers at their business address. For example, locksmiths or plumbers. If you don't serve customers at your business address, do not enter an address under the "Info" tab in Business Profile Manager. Learn more about service-area and hybrid businesses.

For service-area businesses, your video should meet these requirements:

  • Show the location where you offer your services: Good examples include signs in your service area that advertise your business or street signs and landmarks next to your business. A bad example is land that can be present anywhere or unmarked land.
  • Show evidence that your business exists: Capture branded work equipment, marketing materials, services or products for sale, or tools you use to serve your customers. Good examples include recording yourself unlocking a van with your business name on it or branded t-shirts for employees or customers.
  • Demonstrate proof of management: You can record yourself providing the service or showing business documents. For example, business registration, invoices, or utility bills that match the name on your Business Profile.

Submit your video

Step 1: Record & upload your video

Important: Create a plan for what you will show in your video. Make sure that it meets the requirements listed above.

  1. On your mobile device, go to your Business Profile.
    • If you start verification on a computer, to continue on your mobile device, you can scan a QR code.
  2. Tap Get verified and then Capture video.
  3. Tap Start recording.
    • You might be asked to allow access to your location, camera, and microphone. To allow access, follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Tap Start recording button to start recording and then record your video and then tap Stop recording button to stop recording.
  5. Review your video playback to make sure it captures all required information.
    • If you want to record a new video, tap Try again.
  6. Tap Upload video.

Step 2: Wait for review

After you upload your video, we’ll review it. This process can take up to 5 business days. After the review, your video can either be:

  • Successful: We'll let you know when your business is verified.
  • Not successful: Your uploaded video didn’t meet all requirements, but you can record a new video for verification. To help you submit a new video that meets the requirements, we’ll share the reasons why the original video isn’t accepted. To submit a new video:
    1. On your mobile device, go to your Business Profile.
    2. Tap Review issues.
    3. To help you create a new video that meets all the requirements, review the issues.
      • Example of issues:
        • “Business name not shown on storefront”
        • “No view of surrounding area”
        • “You didn’t show you’re authorized to operate the business”
    4. Record your video. Make sure to include all requirements:
      • All the information you provided in your original video.
      • All the necessary information to meet the missing requirements in your original video.
    5. Upload your video.

Tip: If your video is under review and you’re certain that your uploaded video meets all the requirements, we recommend you wait until a verification decision is made before you re-submit it. If you feel like you missed a requirement in your video, you can delete the uploaded video and record a new one.

Step 3 (optional): Delete your video

Important: You can delete your video at any time. If not deleted, Google eventually deletes them. When you cancel a video upload, both you and Google lose access to the video.

  1. On your mobile device, go to your Business Profile.
  2. At the top right, tap More More and then Advanced settings.
  3. Tap Video uploads and then Delete videos.
