How Rich Media Ads Work

  • Rich Media ads must be third-party served and can only be served as polite downloads.
  • Rich Media ads run across all 300x250 placements (Search and Watch).
  • Expandable ads are not accepted.

We do not accept pop-ups, floating ads, or any ads with uninitiated audio. All fees from rich media vendors must be paid for by the advertiser or agency. YouTube does not cover rich media fees.

Creative Submission and Turn Around Time

  • Assets received by YouTube no later than FOUR business days prior to campaign start date sent via your Account Manager.
  • Maximum of 2 creative revisions for site-served creatives are allowed per 6-week period for active campaigns.
  • Maximum of 3 creatives per site-served placement.
  • Maximum of 5 creatives per third-party served placement.

Dimensions: 300x250
Frame Rate: Up to 24 fps

Load Requirements

Initial Load Size: Up to 50 Kb
Subsequent Polite Load Size: Up to 2.2 MB
Includes: all progressive video, .SWFs, .JPGs, .GIFs, etc. (true streaming not included)
CPU Usage: Units containing Flash must not exceed 40% of a user's CPU. Common causes of high CPU use are continued animation & heavy animation sequences.

Attributes

Border and iFrame: Must stay within iframe and have complete border
Mouseover Policy: Only user-initiated mouse effects (by rollover or click) allowed and are always in control by the user. Effects can turn mouse into different icon and/or animate portions of the ad.

Video

Autoplay animation/video: Up to 30 seconds (no limit on loops)
On load audio: No sound, only on click
User-initiated video: Up to 10 minutes, only on click
Must include: progress bar, play/pause/stop buttons, and mute/unmute button
Actions on user click: Once pause or stop is clicked, there should be zero animation or video. All sound and animation should stop upon exit click.
