In the Appearance tab of the Edit Channel view, you can choose an Channel Icon (profile image) by clicking Choose File and uploading an image. This image will accompany your channel name at the top of your channel, and be associated with your channel name in other contexts such as in the top right corner of YouTube to help indicate you are signed into your account.
You may upload a JPG, GIF, BMP, or PNG file as your Channel Icon image, but we do not support animated GIFs. Do not upload pictures containing celebrities, nudity, artwork or copyrighted images, as this violates our Community Guidelines. Channel Icons can be up to 800x800 pixels, so feel free to upload large, high quality Channel Icon images, but take care to make sure your image is recognizable when it is resized to be 36 pixels square as well for display on different parts of the site.
In the Appearance tab, you can also choose and format your channel’s Background image. Upload an image from your computer and select whether or not to repeat the background image by using the Repeat Background Image dropdown. If you do not choose to repeat, the image will appear centered on your channel.
If your selected image is too small, and you choose not to repeat the background image, your image may be appear to be hidden behind your channel. Please keep in mind that the new channel size is 970 px wide versus 960px wide in the old channels design. On regular user channels the main channel will begin 20 pixels underneath the masthead.
