Fix a GPS issue

If you see a "No GPS" message in Waze, this guide will help you solve the issue.

  1. Make sure you’ve allowed Waze to use your phone’s location
    Still see the error message? Go to the next step.
     
  2. Hard reboot your phone
    This is the most common way to solve the issue. Follow these steps to do a hard reboot. Don’t worry, this won’t delete anything from your phone. 
    Once your phone has rebooted, open Waze and try to navigate.
    Still see the error message? Go to the next step.
     
  3. Test your GPS
    Check your phone's GPS to see if it’s working properly:
    1. Open the Google Play Store
    2. In the search bar, type "GPS status"
    3. Tap the magnifying glass on your phone's keyboard
    4. Install one of the GPS status apps
    5. Open the app when you're outdoors
    6. Under “Accuracy” or “Error”, check the number that appears
      • If it’s 0m/0 ft or over 35m/115 ft: Your GPS is not working properly. Please contact your phone's manufacturer to fix the issue. Once fixed, the error message in Waze should disappear.
      • If it’s under 35m/115 ft: Your GPS is working

Android Auto

Fix a GPS issue on Android Auto

  1. Check if the GPS error message appears on your phone
    Waze on Android Auto depends on your phone’s GPS and internet connection. Disconnect your phone from Android Auto and open Waze.
    • If you see a GPS error message in Waze, go to the next step
    • If you don’t see a GPS error message in Waze, but you do see one on your Android Auto console, contact us
  2. Make sure you’ve allowed Waze to use your phone’s location
    Still see the error message? Go to the next step.
     
  3. Hard reboot your phone
    Follow these steps to do a hard reboot. Don’t worry, this won’t delete anything from your phone. 
    Once your phone has rebooted, open Waze and try to navigate.

  4. Test your GPS
    Check your phone's GPS to see if it’s working properly:
    1. Open Waze on your phone
    2. Open the Google Play Store

Android Automotive (AAOS)

Fix a GPS issue on AAOS

Make sure you've allowed Waze to use your car's location.

  1. On your car's screen, open Settings
  2. Tap Apps
  3. Tap View All Apps
  4. Tap Waze
  5. Tap Permissions
  6. Select "Allow all the time" or "Allow only while using the app" 

Note: Steps may vary based on your car model.

CarPlay

Fix a GPS issue on CarPlay

  1. Check if the GPS error message appears on your phone
    Disconnect your phone from CarPlay. On your phone, open Waze.
    • If you see a GPS error message in Waze, go to the next step
    • If you don’t see a GPS error message in Waze, but you do see one on your CarPlay console, go to step 6 
  2. Make sure Waze is open on your phone
    Still see the error message? Go to the next step.
     
  3. Make sure you’ve allowed Waze to use your phone’s location
    Still see the error message? Go to the next step.
     
  4. Hard reset your phone
    Follow these steps to do a hard reset. Don’t worry, this won’t delete anything from your phone.
    Once your phone has rebooted, open Waze and try to navigate.
    Still see an error message? Go to the next step.
     
  5. Test your GPS
    Check your phone's GPS to see if it’s working properly:
    1. Open the App Store
    2. Tap Search
    3. In the search bar, type "GPS status"
    4. Tap Search on your phone's keyboard
    5. Install one of the GPS status apps
    6. Open the app when you're outdoors
    7. Under “Accuracy” or “Error”, check the number that appears
      • If it’s 0m/0 ft or over 35m/115 ft: Your GPS is not working properly. Please contact your phone's manufacturer to fix the issue. Once fixed, the error message in Waze should disappear.
      • If it’s under 35m/115 ft: Your GPS is working. Please contact us for further assistance.
  6. Check how CarPlay was installed in your car
    • If your car came with CarPlay already installed, the issue is related to the Carplay unit head. Please contact Apple to fix the issue.
    • If CarPlay was installed separately, please contact us for further assistance
