Tap and Pay

Tap and pay with your Google Wallet compatible NFC Android device at thousands of merchants that accept contactless payments.

How to tap and pay

When you're about to tap and pay, make sure your device's screen is turned on by pressing the screen power button. Once all your items are scanned, open Google Wallet by tapping the back of your device to the contactless payment terminal, or selecting Google Wallet from your device's app menu and then tapping.

Note: When tapping your device against the contactless terminal, the device should be within 1-2 inches of the payment reader.

Tell the cashier that you'd like to pay with "credit." A payment will be made using your default payment card via the virtual prepaid MasterCard. The contactless payment terminal may flash or beep to indicate that a payment has been made.

Note: You don't need to be connected to a network (Wifi or data) in order to tap and pay. You do need to be connected to a network to set up a card or switch default payment cards. You'll need to add a payment card before you can start tapping and paying.

Tap and pay before Google Wallet times out

When making payments with Google Wallet, you may be required to enter your security PIN beforehand. However, if you recently accessed Google Wallet with your PIN, and the app has not timed out, simply tap your device on the terminal to pay. Find out how to change your timeout duration.
