Fix a Problem

Building textures don't look right

In Building Maker, the images you use to align the blocks are also used to texture your building's faces. As a result, you'll want to make sure you line up your building as carefully as possible. However, even with good alignment, texturing problems can occur. To avoid these problems and ensure the best looking faces as possible, we suggest following these guidelines:

  • Only constrain corners that you can see clearly. If a corner of your building is obstructed from view or below ground, you won't want to constrain a point to that corner. To remove a constraint you already placed, right-click and select Unconstrain point.
  • Remove any images that don't look correct when you're aligning corners. To remove an image, right click on the thumbnail and select Hide image.
  • Add more images. Building Maker starts off with six images, but you can always add more by clicking the 'Load next two images' link underneath the first six. The more images you constrain your blocks in, the better your textures will be.
  • Build some nearby buildings too. Sometimes nearby buildings can obstruct the images of your textured building. Creating buildings that surround your building can help this. Each time you create a nearby building, Building Maker reapplies textures accounting for the new buildings. This usually yields clearer photo textures.
  • Check your other buildings. Since Building Maker uses nearby buildings to help texture, you'll want to make sure that you haven't created unrealistically large buildings or duplicates of your current building.
Note: Building Maker textures are constantly being reapplied, so you may notice changes to your building textures. If you see problems that weren't there before, please try the steps above. If the textures still don't improve, please tell us about it in our Building Maker Forum.
