Creating linear dimensions in rapid succession
You can create several aligned linear dimensions easily by double-clicking after creating the first dimension. To create linear dimensions in rapid succession:
- Select the Linear Dimension tool (
). The cursor changes to a pencil. - Click on the starting point of your dimension.
- Move the cursor toward the ending point of your dimension.
- Click on the ending point of your dimension.
- Move the cursor perpendicular to create start and end extension lines.
- Click the left mouse button to set the length of the extension lines.
- Move the cursor over the ending point for the next dimension.
- Double-click the left mouse button. A dimension of the same height as the previous dimension is created.
Tip: The dimension line is restricted to horizontal, perpendicular, or vertical to the two points that are being measured. Press the Alt (Microsoft Windows) or Option (Mac OS X) key to un-restrict the direction of the dimension line.
Note: Press the Esc key at any point during the operation to start over.
Note: The appearance of a dimension is determined by settings in the Dimensions (text positioning and units), Text Style(text style) and Shape Style (start and end points, line thickness, etc), dialog boxes.
