Tandem creative issues
- Explanation
Tandem creatives are multiple in-page or expandable units that are tied together to be served on the same page at the same time. This allows you to sync multiple units and broadcast events and customised objects. Tandem units use a Flash technology called Local Connect.
- Symptoms
Slow page loading or lags in ad serving can cause the ads to time out and fail to establish a connection. If Local Connect fails, tandem units might not sync, one unit might not load or one or both units might lag in loading.
- How can I avoid this?
You must follow very specific instructions for building tandem ads. Very specific testing is also required. If you don't follow these processes, tandem ads may not show up correctly, leading to confusion.
- Process for testing tandem ads:
- Open only one browser at a time. For example, test on Internet Explorer or Firefox in isolation. Local Connect can occur across browsers, so an ad in Firefox can trigger an ad in Internet Explorer, but if you’re looking at just one browser, the tandem appears broken.
- Once your browser is open, delete cookies and its cache.
- Go to a page that serves many DoubleClick ads in order to pick up a DART cookie.
- Visit your test page. When the cookies and cache are clear and you’ve picked up a DART cookie, the tandem should run correctly.
- If the site uses iframes, the site must make sure that it implements an iframe solution and that JavaScript/standard tags are being used.
- How do I troubleshoot this?
