You can use some of our Google News search operators to help you refine your search results. Just type the operator and a colon, followed by a keyword, to find articles with a specific headline, body text, or URL. You can search:
- By keywords in the body text. You can use the "allintext" operator to search only for keywords in the body of an article. For example, if you want to find all articles with the word "gold" in the body text, you'd type
[ allinbody:gold ]. - By keywords in the headline.You can use the "allintitle" operator to search for an article with a specific headline. For example, you'd type
[ allintitle:lemur ]to receive articles with the keyword "lemur" in the headline. - By keywords in the URL. You can use the "allinurl" operator to search for keywords in the URL of an article. For example, if you wanted to find all articles with "politics" in the URL, you'd type
[ allinurl:politics ].
To refine your search even further, you may want to use some of Google's advanced search features. For example:
- To search for an exact phrase you can put double quotes around a set of words. For example, a search for
[ "lunar eclipse" ]would show you every article in Google News where this exact phrase appears. - To limit your search results by excluding a specific term, you can use the minus sign immediately before the term you'd like to exclude. For example, if you want to search for news related to primates but don't care about monkeys you could enter the query
[ primates -monkeys ]. This is also a good strategy to use when searching for a term with multiple meanings.
