Personalization for mobile and tablet devices

You can personalize Google News by creating new sections for your favorite topics, mixing and matching existing standard sections from language and regional editions, adding local sections where available, or reorganizing your Google News homepage.

If you are logged into your Google account while browsing Google News, changes to your personalization settings on your desktop computer will be reflected on your tablet and mobile devices (and vice versa). If you don't have a Google Account yet, you can create one now.

Nexus and iPad tablets

To personalize your Google News experience on Nexus and iPad tablets, swipe to the Personalization section, which is located to the left of the Top Stories section. There, you'll find these options:

  • Add a custom section. Enter the keyword(s) you'd like to use to create your custom section, then click Add section.

  • Delete a section. Click on the trash can icon next to the section(s) you would like to delete.

  • Adjust a source. If you are signed into your Google Account, you can also adjust sources. To adjust a source, type its name into the text box, click Add, and drag the slider to your desired setting.

If you don't want to see personalized news, you can:

  • Turn off your personalization settings. To do so, scroll to the bottom of the Personalization section, then click Reset.

Android, iPhone and Palm Pre phones

To personalize your Google News Front Page on your iPhone, click on the Jump to button at the top of the page, then Customize this page. Conversely, you can scroll to the bottom of the screen to the Customize this page section.

To add new sections, click Add section. There, you'll find these options:

  • Add a custom section. Enter the keyword(s) you'd like to use to create your custom section, click Advanced link to select the language of your choice from the Language drop-down menu, then click the "Add section" button.

  • Add a local section. Enter the city, state or zip you'd like to use to create your local section, and click the "Add section" button.

  • Add a standard section from other edition or language. Select the country edition of your choice and the standard section you'd like to add, and then click on the "Add section" button.

  • To delete sections or adjust their ordering, click Personalize edition. There, you'll find these options:

  • Reorder custom and standard sections. Click the up and down arrows next to each section to adjust the ordering. The Top Stories section will always be listed on the top of your Google News homepage.

  • Delete section. For each section you would like to delete, click Hide for standard sections, and Delete for custom sections.

  • To re-add a hidden section. Click Show next to the hidden section

  • To save your personalization settings, click Save layout at the bottom of the screen.

If you don't want to see personalized news, you can:

  • Turn off your personalization settings by clicking on the Jump to button at the top of the page, then Customize this page. On the next page, click Personalize edition. Scroll to the bottom and click Reset page to default.
