The search box lets you find items in your organization's Google Maps Engine catalog. Google Maps Engine matches the words or terms that you specify with the content of the Name, Description, and Tag fields of items in the catalog.
Each search is limited to the category that you've selected in the left navigation bar: Maps, Layers, or Source data. Searches are case-insensitive.
For a more precise search, use Advanced Search, which has the following options.

Returns source data, layers, or maps whose Details pages include the specified words or terms in the Name, Description, and Tag fields. This search applies only to the metadata for catalog items, and not to the data inside. For example, if you search for

| Tags |
Returns items whose Tags match the specified strings. You can specifiy multiple tags, separating them with commas. Spaces are allowed in each tag search term. Your ability to get good search results is affected by tagging techniques in use in your organization. For information on tagging strategies and how they facilitate search, refer to Tagging Data. |
| Type | Returns specified types of source data. This option is available only for searching source data. |
| Status |
Returns items with the specified status, including those with two status values. For example, if a map has been published and has the value Published but has also been edited and has the value Ready for processing, a search for either value returns the map. |

| Creator |
Returns catalog items created by specified users. Specify the email address of the user, including the @domain-name portion. For example, specify joe@example.com, rather than just joe. |
| Access list | Returns items that are shared with the specified access list. You must be included in the access list in order to search based on the list. |
