You can search for all kinds of things using Google Maps. Learn how to search for specific types of places and locations below, as well as how to understand search results:

Businesses

Here are two ways to search for businesses:

• Type the business name in the search bar then click the Search button (or press Enter).
• Enter the type of business you are looking for then click the Search button (or press Enter).

Search results appear in the left panel of the page and as icons on the map itself.

If no geographic location is specified, Google Maps will use automatic location to provide search results nearest to you. You can send search results to your car or phone.

Addresses

To search for an address, enter the address and click the Search button (or press Enter). Search results appear in the left panel of the page and as icons on the map itself.

Where possible, try using the following formats for addresses: "Address, city, state" or "Address, city, ZIP".

Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London SW1A 0AA

 

Roads and Intersections

For roads, enter the road and city or town. For intersections, enter the same, but separate road names with "and" or "&".

For intersections, enter the street or intersection and click the Search button (or press Enter). Search results appear in the left panel of the page and as icons on the map itself.

Places: Cities, towns, states, provinces, states and continents

To search for cities, towns, airports, states, provinces, states or continents, enter the place name and click the Search button (or press Enter). Search results appear in the left panel of the page and as icons on the map itself.

Coordinates

If you know the exact latitude and longitude coordinates of a location, type them into the search bar and click the Search button (or press Enter). Search results appear in the left panel of the page and as icons on the map itself.

Search example: +38° 34' 24.00", -109° 32' 57.00"

 

Geographic features

To search for parks, mountains, lakes, etc., enter the name of the feature and and click the Search button (or press Enter). Search results appear in the left panel of the page and as icons on the map itself.

For best results, enter the feature name and the region where it resides.

1. Map marker: Use this to find this result on the map.
2. Title: Click more info beside this to go to the business’ Place page.
3. Star: Star places to be able to access them quickly later.
4. Address: View the postal address of this place.
5. Photo: See a thumbnail photo taken from the business’ Place page.
6. Rating & reviews: See the overall rating based on the Zagat scoring scale and the number of reviews found from across the web. Click the rating to go to the business’ Google+ local page.
7. Snippet: Read a short summary of the place, selected from a review.
8. Descriptive terms: Read a brief, automatically generated summary of information about this place.
