My Places

Home and Work in Maps

Overview

Google Maps allows you to save your home and work locations in My places so that when you're signed in, you can quickly reference them for use in directions and search. For example, you can now search for directions originating from your home address by simply typing “home” into the directions box.

If you're a Latitude user, you can update or correct your home and work locations in the Latitude history dashboard. Your saved addresses will automatically appear in My places as well. Learn how to set a Home location in Latitude

Changing your home and work location

To save your home and work location, go to the My places panel at http://maps.google.com/maps/myplaces and sign in to your Google account. To edit or delete either of these saved addresses, click the drop-down menu to the right of the home or work icon and select your desired action.

If you delete your home or work location, you won’t be able to use the terms “home” or “work” in search or directions. Additionally, you'll no longer see home and work icons on the map. You can always re-add your home or work location simply by clicking “Set home location” or “Set work location”.

Using Home and Work in search or directions

You can access your home or work locations by simply using the terms “home” or “work” in Maps search or directions. Google Maps will display your home or work address as an option in the drop-down suggestions so that you won’t need to type in your full address.

Integration with Latitude

If you update your home or work location in the Latitude history dashboard, it will also be updated in My places in Google Maps. The reverse is true as well -- if you update your home or work location from My places, the changes will apply to your Latitude history dashboard. However, we won't show home and work locations that have been estimated by Latitude.

If you delete your home or work location, Latitude will still continue to estimate your home and work address based on your location history patterns at times when people are usually at home or work.
