What is automatic location?
To provide you with the most relevant results, your location is detected based on your IP address. Your exact location isn’t provided, but using IP gives us a chance to guess what location may be most relevant for you. For automatic location, we make a best guess at the city level to set the initial Maps view.
Your location
The location in the initial Maps view is clearly indicated in the left-hand panel with the label ‘Your current location’ when you first visit Google Maps. If you find that you’ve been mapped incorrectly, you can easily specify your correct location.
Why it’s important for your Maps experience
We strive to provide search results that we believe are most relevant to your search. Location is one of a number of factors that we use to provide relevant results. For example, if you search for a restaurant chain, you may want to find a branch near you. Now, your initial Maps view will be set to your current location, so that you can get easy access to local results. If you wish, you can learn more about location based services.

If you're not logged in when you correct your location and the edited location isn’t re-used even when you use the same computer, browser, and network, please check your browser settings.
Maps search results based on location are an important component of a consistent, high-quality search experience. But if you don’t want to use automatic location, you can update your location to your current country.
In that case your initial Maps view will be a view of your country instead of your automatic location. Note that in certain circumstances this location - like other edited locations - will not be reused.
