Fix a slow or laggy Google TV device

If your Google TV device freezes, starts up slowly, responds slowly when you search, or takes a long time to open apps, this article can help fix the issue.

Restart your device

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings.
  2. Select System and then Restart and then Restart.

Close background apps

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings and then Apps.
  2. Under "Recently opened apps," select an app.
  3. Select Force stop and then OK.
  4. Repeat the steps for all your recently opened apps.

Check for app updates

Important: Your TV might be slower while app updates are in progress.

  1. On your TV, search for Google Play Store.
  2. When Google Play opens, at the top right, go to the profile picture or initial.
  3. Select Manage apps & games and then Updates and then Update all.

Tip: To update apps automatically, in the Play Store, go to Settings and select Auto-update apps.

Check for system updates

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings.
  2. Select System and then About and then System update.
  3. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

Turn on quick start option

  1. From the Google TV home screen, select Settings Settings.
  2. Select System and then Power & Energy.
  3. Turn on Quick Start.
