Changes to the Google Pay app in the US

Important: The following changes only impact the U.S. version of the standalone Google Pay app.

While in-store and online payments via Google Pay remain unchanged, the U.S. version of the Google Pay app will no longer be available for use starting June 4, 2024. Here are the key changes and important dates:

Google Payment Corporation's Customer Service and Error Resolution Policy and applicable processes still apply to report unauthorized peer-to-peer transactions related to Google Pay. If you have any further questions about your balance in the app, refer to this Google Pay balance article.

Common questions about these changes

When will the U.S. version of the Google Pay app no longer be available for use?

Starting on June 4, 2024, the U.S. version of the Google Pay app is no longer available for use. This change does not impact the Google Pay app in India or Singapore, nor does it impact Google Wallet. Learn more about Google Wallet.

You can continue to do the following:

1. You can continue to tap and pay in stores and manage payment methods in Google Wallet, and from the Google Wallet website.

2. You can continue to pay online and in-store with Google Pay (your stored payment details will still appear at checkout online on Android and Chrome, and in-store through Google Wallet).

3. You can view and transfer your Google Pay balance to your bank account from the Google Wallet website.

What if I had money in the U.S. version of the Google Pay app?

After June 4, 2024, you can continue to access and transfer your Google Pay balance from the Google Wallet website. Learn how to transfer money out of Google Pay.

Can I still use the tap-to-pay feature in stores?

Anywhere you normally use Google Pay — from checking out online to tapping and paying in stores — remains the same. If you use your Android phone to shop in stores where Google Pay is accepted, you can continue to tap-to-pay in stores with the Google Wallet app, and manage your payment methods directly from the Wallet app. Learn more about Google Wallet.

What if I had a bank account or credit card linked with Plaid in the U.S. version of the Google Pay app?

You will still be able to track spending by viewing your transactions on the Google Wallet website. You can also disconnect an account on the website. Learn more about linking your account with Plaid.

What if I sent money internationally with Wise via the U.S. version of the Google Pay app?

If you’ve used the Google Pay app in the US to send money with Wise from the US to India or Singapore, this feature and related transaction information is no longer available from the Google Pay app. This does not impact your Wise account, which you can continue to access at wise.com.

Can I still find deals with Google?

Offers are no longer available in the U.S. version of the Google Pay app.

Where can I view my past transactions?

You can continue to access eligible recent transactions on the Google Wallet website, including: 

  • Contactless payments made with your Android device
  • Payments made and sent with the app
  • Transactions from your Plaid-linked accounts
