Google Maps Labs allows you to try out experimental new features in Maps. To turn on a Labs feature in Google Maps for Mobile:
- Click the Menu icon in the bottom right corner.
- Choose Settings.
- Select Labs.
- Tap the checkbox next to a feature to enable it. You can then return to the map. Your selection will remain enabled until you turn it off.
The current Maps Labs features are:
Adds an on-screen button to measure distances and elevation changes between locations. Tap the button to start and stop measuring, then tap a start and end point to get the measurements.
Increase the text size of labels on the map.
Displays an elevation profile for walking and biking directions. Once you get walking or biking directions you’ll automatically see a profile of your total ascent and the highest point on the route.
Local Language Labels
Only shows map labels in the local language for each region.
Fades out location bubbles after a few seconds so they don’t obscure the map
Enables blind and low-vision users to explore a given neighborhood for informational purposes only.
Note: Spoken descriptions do not take into account sidewalks, direction of travel, or other road elements, so this feature should not be used for directions or navigation. Feature is in beta and information may be wrong, incomplete, out of date, or approximate.
