There are a few types of supervision that have different parental controls. Find the description that matches your experience to help you find out which type of supervision you have and learn more about it.
Google Accounts managed with Family Link, for children under 13 (or applicable age in your country)
- Family Link supervision is mandatory for your account, until you reach the minimum age for managing your own Google Account, based on your country’s privacy laws.
- Your parent helped to create your account.
Google Accounts managed with Family Link, for children 13 and over (or applicable age in your country)
- Family Link supervision is optional for your account, as you are over the minimum age for managing your own Google Account, based on your country’s privacy laws.
- You and your parent added supervision to your existing Google Account.

Google Accounts managed with Family Link, created before May 25th, 2018*, for children in the EU under 16 (or applicable age in your country)
- Family Link supervision is mandatory for your account, until you reach the minimum age for managing your own Google Account, based on your country’s privacy laws.
- You had a Google Account before May 25th, 2018, *when the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation went into effect.
- You received an email about adding supervision to your account because of changes in your country’s privacy laws.
