With Google Earth you can find the longitude, latitude, altitude, and when images were taken of places from around the world.
Find imagery dates
Important: An imagery date or range of dates may not be available in all locations or at all zoom levels.
To find a date or range of dates for when an image was taken in the bottom status bar, move your cursor over any location on the map.
Find coordinates of a location
Use Google Earth to look up the longitude (east-west position) and latitude (north-south position) coordinates of a location.
- On your computer, open Google Earth.
- On the left, click Search .
- Search for a place. On the right is a Knowledge Card that shares information about the place.
- In the top left corner of the Knowledge Card, click the Up arrow .
- In the box that appears, find the longitude and latitude coordinates.
Tip: If you move the mouse to hover over other locations, the updated coordinates and altitude appear on the bottom right corner of the screen.
Use coordinates to find a place
You can use the coordinates of a place to find its location on Google Earth.
- On your computer, open Google Earth.
- On the left, click Search .
- Type the coordinates using one of these formats:
- Decimal Degrees:
42.7°, -100.2°
- Degrees, Minutes, Seconds:
64°25'12.07"N, 100°10'15.24"W
- Decimal Degrees:
Check the altitude of a place
- Search for a place, or adjust Google Earth until you find the correct location.
- At the bottom right find the real-world altitude and the altitude of the camera. If you move the mouse to hover over different locations, the altitude updates.
Choose a unit of measurement for altitude
- On your computer, open Google Earth.
- Click Menu Settings .
- In "Units of measurement," pick an option.
