The visibility options and access levels in Google Drive give you full control over any file, folder, or Google Doc that you own. That means you can remove collaborators, prevent an editor from giving access privileges to others, or make something private that was previously visible to anyone with the link or access to the web.
Remove collaborators
- Go to drive.google.com.
- Check the box next to the file or folder you'd like to share.
Click the Share icon
.OR
Click the More menu and select "Share..."
- Click the X next to each collaborator you want to remove.
- Click Share & save.
Prevent collaborators from giving access privileges to others
As you may have read in About Sharing, anyone who has "Can Edit" access to one of your files, folders, or Google Docs can grant access and adjust access levels for others. If you want to prevent collaborators from giving others access privileges, follow these steps:
- Go to drive.google.com.
- Check the box next to the file or folder you'd like to share.
Click the Share icon
.OR
Click the More menu and select "Share..."
- Look for the "Editors will be allowed to add people and change the permissions" link at the bottom of the Sharing settings screen and click the "Change" link.
- Choose "Only the owner can change the permissions."
Make something private
You can control how people access your files by changing the visibility option back to "Private." For example, changing the setting from "Anyone with the link" to "Private" will restrict access to just those individual people who you’ve given view, comment, or edit access.
Follow these steps to change the visibility setting to remove collaborators’ access:
- Go to drive.google.com.
- Check the box next to the file or folder you'd like to share.
Click the Share icon
.OR
Click the More menu and select "Share..."
- Next to the current visibility setting (above the list of editors and viewers), click the "Change" link.
- Select "Private."
- Click Save.
- Click Share & save.
