A file stored online at drive.google.com.
Files and folders in your online Google Drive are called "online copies." If these files are in My Drive, they'll sync to your Google Drive desktop folder to create a corresponding local copy.
When you change an online copy in drive.google.com, your account automatically syncs to update copies of the file stored on other devices where Google Drive has been installed.
