Test your creatives

Goal: Create a test page to simulate the live delivery of a particular creative on a particular page

Example: Test an expandable ad on the homepage, ensure that it works properly and doesn't break other elements on the page

Description: Before deploying a complex rich media creative, publishers typically prefer to test the ad before setting it live on their site. If not coded correctly, expanding, floating and otherwise complex rich media can interfere with other functional elements on the page. Rather than burdening the publisher with the time-intensive process of manually creating a test page and setting up a special line item for testing, DFP Small Business offers a feature that dynamically generates test pages. "Open in Your Site" allows the publisher to simulate the live delivery of any particular creative for any URL in their site that contains DFP Small Business ad tags.

Instantly, the ad trafficker can interact with the preview page to test for correct functionality.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. After uploading a rich media creative, select Open in your site.
  2. Insert the URL of a page on your site containing DFP Small Business ad tags on which you'd like to preview the creative.
Impressions generated by previewing or testing a creative aren't included in reports. The 'Impressions' or 'Clicks' field on the summary page of the line items you've previewed or tested displays the label 'Test impressions received'. This indicates that the ad server received at least one impression it hasn't counted because the traffic source was not a visitor to your website. This label also displays in the 'Impressions' or 'Clicks' field of orders that contain previewed or tested line items.
