Add a video creative set

To add a creative set to a video line item, follow these steps:

  1. On the Orders tab, select a video line item.

  2. Select the Creative sets tab.

  3. Click Add creative sets > new creative set.

  4. Select the creative set type. To see instructions for a particular creative type, click to expand the appropriate link below.

    Linear

A linear creative is a video ad that appears as a pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll.

    1. Select Linear.

    2. Enter a creative set name.

    3. For the master creative, enter the Name and Click-through URL.

    4. Enter a Duration in seconds.
This value should match the duration of the video assets, within two seconds. If the difference is more than two seconds, you can override this requirement by selecting the checkbox labeled "Allow creative duration to differ from asset duration."

    5. Select a Hosting option in the drop-down menu. Click to expand the appropriate instructions below.
    6. DFP-hosted assets

DFP supports most common video formats. Learn about video upload and transcoding.

      • Drag and drop a file to the gray highlighted area, or click Or upload a new asset. You can upload a file up to 15 MB. The upload begins immediately.
      • If you click Save or otherwise navigate away from the page while the video is uploading, you'll cancel the upload and you'll need to start over.
      • After the file uploads successfully, transcoding begins. You can now click Save, and transcoding will continue in the background. To see the status of transcoding, return to this page and check the Assets table.

      Externally-hosted assets

You can add multiple asset URLs in one step, and DFP will extract the metadata for all of them.

      • Click Add assets.
      • Enter the URLs for the externally hosted assets, one per line. If a URL contains spaces, replace the spaces with %20. You can add a maximum of 40 URLs at a time.
      • Click Save. Metadata is extracted and displayed for each asset.

If metadata cannot be extracted, assets are displayed in the table, but with blank values. You’ll need to enter required metadata in the table before assets can be saved on the main page.

      YouTube-hosted assets

You can quickly add YouTube-hosted assets by entering the applicable URL or searching YouTube.

      1. Click YouTube-hosted.
      2. Enter a YouTube URL or choose Or import from YouTube and search for the video.
      3. Click Save. The YouTube URL and the video's duration (in seconds) are displayed.
You need to use Flash IMA3 SDK in order to show YouTube-hosted ads.

Keep in mind that these assets should play back the same creative. To assign different creative variations to a line item, use multiple creative sets.

    Overlay

Overlay creative sets include a non-linear ad that covers part of the content in a video player.

    1. Select Overlay.

    2. Enter a creative set name.

    3. For the master creative:
      • Name the master creative.
      • Upload an image file or click the link to Use a remote image.
      • Enter the Click-through URL, and click Test to test it.

    Redirect

Redirect creative sets include a redirect ad, containing one or more linear ads and/or non-linear ads, that points to a third-party ad server. This creative set type requires the VAST tag provided by the advertiser.

    1. Select Redirect.

    2. Enter a creative set name.

    3. Select the Redirect type (video, overlay, or both video and overlay).

    4. Name the master creative.

    5. Enter the VAST tag URL provided by the advertiser.
Note: If you're using the Google IMA SDK, and the VAST Redirect ad tag URL includes the "?" character, be aware that the SDK encodes everything following the "?" character. If this isn't your intention, it can cause the ad tag URL not to work properly.

    6. Click Test to test the URL.
    7. Enter the Duration of the creative. Note that this field doesn't change dynamically based on the VAST inline ad.

  5. Click Save.

You can use the Settings tab to adjust the details of your creative sets.
