You can expand your users' search queries by using synonyms, which are variants of a search term. When you define synonyms for a search term, searching for that term automatically triggers a search for its synonyms.
Let's say you've defined "ninja" as a search term with the synonym variant "assassin". Any search query that includes the word "ninja" will return results for both "ninja" and its synonym "assassin"—as though the user had searched for "ninja OR assassin".
- On the Custom Search home page, click the search engine you want.
- Click Search features, and then click the Synonyms tab.
- Click Add.
- Type a search term, and then add one or more synonyms for that term.
- Click OK.
