On-demand indexing feature in Google Site Search is very useful to index new pages and modified content. As On-demand index is based on quota , it's recommended to use the feature to index high priority pages while using the regular indexing to index the remaining content.
Following are some of the best practices we recommend considering while using on-demand indexing :
- When creating your Sitemap, follow the guidelines specified in Google Webmaster tools.
- Specify the priority sitemap XML tag for each URL in your Sitemap. This tells search engines which pages you think are most important.
- Specify the changefreq sitemap XML tag in your Sitemap. This tells search engines how often the page is likely to change.
- Specify the lastmod sitemap XML tag for each URL in your Sitemap. This tells Googlebot when the content was changed and plays a critical role in determining whether to consider the URL for on-demand indexing.
