Overview of CS First
This video will show you what CS First is all about in addition to the information below.
CS First is an easy-to-use computer science curriculum designed for students in grades 4-8 (ages 9-14) that is free of charge.
This program can be used by teachers in the classroom or by parents for at-home learning.
CS First uses video and text instruction to teach kids coding basics with Scratch for CS First, a special version of the Scratch coding editor inside the CS First website.

How CS First works

This video will show you how to set up an account, a class, and what CS First is all about.
- Set up an account if you want to track your students' work.
- Set up a class online. Anyone can teach CS First - no computer science experience is required.
- CS First provides the curriculum and materials.
- You (or someone else that you delegate) lead the CS First class. Lesson plans and other resources are available for you to use.
Minimum requirements to host a CS First class
Anyone can run a class anywhere as long as you have:
- Computer for you and your students. Tablets are not recommended.
- Stable internet (See our tips for what to do if you have slow internet or no internet).
- Headphones (recommended but not required).
