User management

How to I add users to Coordinate?
First, you need to add users to your organization's Google account, using your Admin console, and assign Coordinate licenses to them. Next, you need to add all your licensed users to Coordinate and assign a role them: administrator, dispatcher, or mobile worker.

Is there a limit to the number of users I can add to Coordinate?
No, you can add as many users to Coordinate as you like. However, each user you add—whether an administrator, dispatcher, or mobile worker—must have a Coordinate license, which you assign to each user’s account using your Admin console. Learn more

How do I provide users I add with access to access Coordinate?
After you add users to your organizatin's Google account, you'll need to assign Coordinate licenses to them before you can add them to Coordinate. Each type of user needs a license: administrators, dispatchers, and mobile workers. You assign a license to each user’s account using your Admin console. Learn more

Location sharing

What technologies does Maps Coordinate use to determine the location of a mobile worker?
The Maps Coordinate mobile app uses the location services available and enabled on the mobile device. These services include GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower information (Cell-ID).

How accurate is Coordinate at locating mobile workers?
The accuracy of a mobile worker’s current location depends on the types of location services enabled on the device, the strength of the device’s wireless signal, and how frequently the mobile app sends location updates. Learn more

Does location sharing affect the battery life of a mobile device?
Yes, sending location updates from a mobile device does consume battery power. Mobile workers can preserve battery life by changing the frequency of location updates. Also, the Maps Coordinate mobile app automatically saves battery power when the device is not moving.

Can mobile workers prevent the dispatcher from viewing their location?
Yes, a mobile worker can turn off location sharing at any time, to stop his or her mobile device from sending location updates, using the Visible/Invisible toggle in the mobile app. Workers can also set their mobile app to automatically stop location sharing at a specific time each day. These options help mobile workers maintain privacy when your organization doesn’t need to know their location, such as after work hours. In an upcoming release, dispatchers will be able to see which mobile users have turned off location sharing.

Can I prevent mobile workers from changing their location sharing settings?
Only mobile workers can change their own location sharing settings.

Can I purchase Google Coordinate bundled with mobile devices?
At this time, Google doesn’t provide the option to purchase mobile devices with your Coordinate licenses. However, if you’re purchasing Coordinate through one of our partners, check to see if they offer this option.

Can I locate mobile workers on indoor maps?
Yes, you can upload your building’s floorplan to Google Maps, and then use the Google Floorplans Marker app to tell Google Maps how to locate mobile devices based on the wireless signal strength at various locations in your building. Note that any floorplans you upload to Google Maps are publicly available to others.

Mobile device management

Do mobile workers need to install an app on their mobile devices?
Yes, each mobile worker needs to install the Google Maps Coordinate mobile app. They use the app to receive job assignments and update job status. The app also tells their dispatcher and other mobile workers their location in the field.

Do all users need to use the same version of the mobile app?
Some updates to the mobile app are optional, while others are required. So it’s possible for users to have slightly different versions of the mobile app until we release a required update. At all times, however, the mobile app on each worker’s device is completely compatible with your Coordinate web console.

Is the mobile app updated automatically?
If an update is available, mobile workers receive a notification in their mobile app. If an update is required, mobile workers need to accept it to continue using the app. However, if an update is optional, they can decline it and still use the app.

Can I manage my mobile workers’ mobile devices using the Admin console?
Yes, if you're also a Google Apps customer, you can use your Admin console to manage users’ mobile devices that have the Google Apps Device Policy app.  Learn more

However, if you're not a Google Apps customer, your Admin console for Coordinate does not include mobile management features.

Can I require all users to use the same version of the mobile app?
At this time, the ability to force updates to the mobile app is not available.

Is there a way to minimize data costs associated with using Coordinate?
Yes, mobile workers can choose how frequently their mobile device sends location updates, which affects their rate of data usage. Learn more
