You can adjust the language used for the device’s screens and menus, spell-check, and for viewing webpages.
- If you haven’t already, sign in to your Chrome device.
- Click the status area in the lower-right corner, where your account picture appears.
- Select Settings.
- Click Show advanced settings at the bottom of the page.
- In the “Language” section, click Customize languages and input.
- You can then adjust the following settings: Display language used for system menus and screens
- If the language you want to use isn’t already listed, click Add.
- In the list that appears, click the language you want to use.
- The language is now added to your list of preferred languages. Click Display Chrome OS in this language.
- Optional: If there’s more than one standard way to type in your language, make sure you select the keyboard input methods you want to use.
- Click Sign out to apply your selection.
- If the language you want to use isn’t listed, click Add.
- In the list that appears, click the language you want to use.
- The language is now added to your list of preferred languages. Click Use this language for spell-checking (if available).
- If the language you want to use isn’t listed, click Add. Only add the languages you need, because malicious websites can use similar-looking characters from different languages to mislead you about the web address you're visiting.
- In the list that appears, click the language you want to use to read a webpage.
- In the main list of languages, drag the languages to order them according to your language preferences. For example, if you prefer French over English, make sure French is listed first.
- Optional: If there’s more than one standard way to type in your language, make sure you select the keyboard input methods you want to use.

This setting is applied the next time you sign in to your account. If you have owner permissions, the display language you selected will also be used for the main sign-in screen.
It’s not possible to disable spellcheck functionality.
Webpage language preferences help the browser determine the language it should use to display a webpage.
