Monitor and prevent password reuse

Overview: Control password reuse

As a Chrome administrator, you can prevent users from using their password on dangerous websites or on websites that aren’t authorized by your organization. Preventing password reuse across multiple websites can protect your organization from compromised accounts.

Password protection options

  • Passive monitoring—Log password reuse events onto the local file system or Windows® Event Logger without showing warnings to users. For details, see Set up passive password monitoring.
  • Active detection—Display a warning to users and prompt them to change their password when they reuse it on phishing websites or websites that you didn’t authorize. Events are logged in the local file system or Windows Event Logger. For details, see Set up active password detection.
