You may want to start with the basic Internet connection troubleshooter in the user help center.
For issues with WiFi access, please try the troubleshooting steps below.
- Ensure that Wifi is enabled in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.
- If you are trying to connect to a weak Wifi signal, disable 3G cellular in the drop-down menu at the top of your screen. 3G may cause interference if there is a weak signal.
- Disable WiFi and enable mobile data (3G). Is it faster or slower? 3G should always be slower, so if it isn't, you know it's a problem with the wireless network.
- Reset your router and modem.
- Clear your cache and cookies.
- From the Chrome menu (
), select Settings and then Under The Hood.
- Select Clear Browsing Data.
- From the Chrome menu (
- Log in under a Guest account.

- Disable Wifi, reboot the system, and re-enable Wifi.
- Power reset the Chrome device
- Shutdown the system.
- Remove the power supply.

- Hold the ON button down for 10 seconds.
- Reseat the battery.
- Plug in the power supply.
- Reboot the system.
- Reinstall Chrome OS on the device. You'll need to create a USB flash recovery drive to recover a Chrome device.
- Check that your wireless router has the latest firmware updates from the vendor.
- Configure your router to use a different channel.
Remember to re-enroll the Chrome device as part of your organization if you wipe the device during troubleshooting.
Other issues to be aware of:
- Verify that the network is supported:
- Supported Wifi protocols: WEP, WPA, WPA2, EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS, and EAP-PEAP.
- TKIP is not compatible with 11n.
- Networks with a non-broadcasted SSID are supported, but you must know the name and password. Note: If you enter an incorrect password or SSID, you will not receive any notice that the system failed to join network.
- Ad-hoc networks are not supported.
- If there is a network password, check that you entered it correctly. For supported Wifi protocols, if you enter an incorrect password, you'll see the notice Incorrect Password in red. This Incorrect Password notice will persist through reboot.
- Make sure your network password isn't too long (>24 characters). If it is, try logging into your router and setting your network password to a shorter length, then try connecting with your Chrome device again.
- If the network is:
- WPA/WPA2
- using TKIP
- very slow or does not allow access
TKIP is incompatible with 11n. The client should automatically downgrade the link to legacy operation, and you should see 22Mb/s as described for other devices.
- The networkmode of your router should be set to BG-Mixed instead of Mixed to improve speed.
- Access through a Captive Portal may not work. You may be able to log in as Guest, connect to the network, and log in with the Google account.
