Google Apps supports the following browsers:
We support the latest version of Google Chrome (which automatically updates whenever it detects that a new version of the browser is available). We support the current and previous major releases of Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time a new version is released, we begin supporting that version and stop supporting the third most recent version.
At Google, we’re committed to developing web applications that go beyond the limits of traditional software. Our engineering teams make use of new capabilities available in modern, up-to-date browsers. That’s why we made the decision last year to support only modern browsers, which also provide improved security and performance. For support entitled Google Apps customers, Google now provides one-to-one support for Chrome core functionality under the Google Apps agreement.
Browser settings
All browsers must have cookies and JavaScript enabled to use Google Apps.
Google Apps services
A few Google Apps core services rely on specific browsers for some features:
- Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Slides: Offline access requires Chrome
- Gmail: Desktop Notifications require Chrome
Internet Explorer 8 users
As previously announced, Internet Explorer 10 launches on October 26, 2012, and as a result, we will discontinue support for Internet Explorer 8 shortly afterwards, on November 15. Prior to this date, users accessing Google Apps services using Internet Explorer 8 will see a message recommending that they upgrade their browser.
Organizations that depend on old versions of Internet Explorer may want to consider a dual browser strategy.
- Calendar: Calendars display in read-only mode.
- Gmail: Gmail users are redirected to the basic HTML interface of Gmail.
- Drive: Drawings and presentations don't display properly.
