Google Drive files and folders

Google Drive keyboard shortcuts


Go to different Google Drive views

  • G then F = Go to the My Drive folders view
  • G then N = Go to the views panel
  • G then L = Go to the files and folders list for the selected view
  • G then D = Go to the details panel for the selected item

Navigate and select items in the files and folders list

  • J = Go to the next item in the list and highlight
  • K = Go to the previous item in the list and highlight
  • X = Select or de-select the highlighted item
  • Down arrow = Select the next item in the list
  • Shift + Down arrow = Select the next item in the list while leaving the current selection selected
  • Up arrow = Select previous item in the list
  • Shift + Up arrow = Select the previous item in the list while leaving the current selection selected
  • Shift + A = Select all items in the list
  • Shift + N = Unselect all items in the list

Create a new Google document or folder

  • Shift + T = Create a new text document
  • Shift + P = Create a new presentation
  • Shift + S = Create a new spreadsheet
  • Shift + D = Create a new drawing
  • Shift + F = Create a new folder

Show various menus

  • C = Show the create file menu, then use the arrow keys to select the type of item to create
  • U = Show the Upload menu
  • A = Show the actions menu
  • R = Show the sort menu
  • T = Show the settings menu

Take action on a selected item

  • Z = Bring up the Organize panel to move the selected item to another folder
  • S = Star or unstar the selected item
  • O or Enter = Open the selected item
  • Period = Share the selected item
  • N = Rename the selected item

Access or enable features

  • Forward slash = Go to the Search box
  • D = Show or hide the details pane
  • Question mark, Shift + Forward slash, or Control + Forward slash = See the shortcuts help menu (Windows)
  • Question mark, Shift + Forward slash, or Command + Forward slash = See the shortcuts help menu (Mac)
